Meet Alex & Roman
Intended Parents – Barcelona, Spain
Roman and Alex live in beautiful Barcelona, Spain, where they have created a life centred around family, friendship, gratitude, and generosity. They have been together for 16 years and will celebrate their seventh wedding anniversary in October 2026.
Roman is self-employed and serves as the CEO of companies specializing in decontamination and recycling. Alex is also self-employed and is the CEO of a public relations and communications company. Their careers provide them with the flexibility to spend plenty of time with their loved ones and, one day, their future children.
Roman and Alex first met at a queer nightclub when Alex was 21 and Roman was 32. While they jokingly admit it may not be the most glamorous story, that evening changed both of their lives forever.
Family has always been at the centre of their lives, and they have long dreamed of building a family of their own. Over the years, they have created a close circle of friends who feel like family and have welcomed two beloved Dachshunds, Wilma and Winston, into their home. Wilma is caring and complex, while Winston is playful and easygoing.
Now, they feel that welcoming children is the final—and most challenging but rewarding—step in creating the family they have always envisioned.
Roman and Alex considered both adoption and surrogacy. However, as international adoption opportunities became increasingly limited, they decided to prioritize surrogacy as their path to parenthood.
They are working with Dr. Victory at Victory Reproductive Care and have 10 PGS-tested embryos ready. They hope to transfer one embryo at a time. Ideally, Roman and Alex would love to welcome two children because they do not want their future child to grow up without a sibling.
They chose Canada because its altruistic approach reflects the values they want at the heart of their journey. It was essential to them that surrogacy not feel commercialized or transactional. After being offered opportunities in other countries, they remained committed to Canada.

Their path to parenthood has included heartbreaking challenges, including a miscarriage two years ago. Roman and Alex understand that another loss is possible, but they remain hopeful that they will experience a healthy and successful pregnancy with a surrogate with whom they share a genuine connection.
Their families and close friends know about their journey and are incredibly excited to welcome a child. Following their previous loss, Roman and Alex decided to share fewer updates until they have news of a successful pregnancy, allowing them to protect their hearts while continuing to move forward with hope.
Both sets of parents are retired and eager to help. Their five siblings, 11 nieces and nephews, and close circle of friends are equally excited to support them. Their future children will be welcomed into a large, loving, and involved extended family.
Roman and Alex live in an open, vibrant, and beautiful city. Their family members and closest friends live less than a mile away, allowing them to share daily life and important moments with the people they love most.
They also love their home, which they renovated four years ago. It includes a small garden where they can relax, entertain loved ones, and imagine their future children playing. They believe it will be a wonderful place to raise a family.
In their spare time, Roman and Alex enjoy cooking, sharing meals with friends, hiking, sailing, exercising, meditating, and travelling around the world together. They also value spending meaningful time with their families and appreciating how fortunate they are.
More than anything, they look forward to giving their future children unconditional love and sharing a life filled with family, friendship, culture, travel, and adventure.
Roman and Alex hope to build a relationship with their surrogate that is rooted in kindness, openness, trust, and mutual understanding. They do not want her to feel overwhelmed by constant communication, but they also never want her to feel that they are uninterested or disconnected.
They understand that finding the right balance will require honest conversations about everyone’s needs and preferences. Although attending appointments in person may be difficult because they live in Spain, they would love to receive updates and participate through phone or video calls whenever possible. They also hope to visit Canada around the middle of the pregnancy.
Roman and Alex want to support their surrogate in the way that is most meaningful to her, recognizing that every person and every journey is different. They hope she will feel comfortable communicating her needs so they can do everything possible to help her feel valued and supported.
They are open to a home birth, birthing centre, hospital birth, or midwifery care, provided the surrogate feels comfortable and appropriate safety measures are in place. They believe these decisions should primarily be guided by their surrogate and her medical care team.
They would love to attend the birth of their child, but they fully respect that this is also their surrogate’s experience. Her comfort, privacy, and wishes will always be considered.
There are no professional or personal circumstances that would prevent Roman and Alex from travelling to Canada for the birth. Being present to welcome their child into the world is incredibly important to them.
After the birth, they hope to maintain a lasting connection with their surrogate. They want to explain their child’s story openly and naturally, including the meaningful roles played by both their egg donor and surrogate.
They do not expect constant communication or want to interfere in their surrogate’s life, but they hope everyone will remain connected. To Roman and Alex, their surrogate will always be the person who gave them the greatest gift of their lives.
After 16 years together, Roman and Alex have learned that a lasting relationship is built through understanding, communication, and the small choices made every day. They try to consider what the other person needs, focus on what truly matters, and avoid becoming caught up in unimportant disagreements.
They were initially attracted to how deeply the other cared about people. Today, they continue to describe each other as caring and genuinely good. Even when one of them makes a mistake, they trust that he will always try to make it right.
Together, Roman and Alex have built a loving, stable, and fulfilling life. They are ready to share it with a child and hope to meet a compassionate Canadian surrogate who will help them begin their next chapter as fathers.

Quick overview on a few things you need to know about becoming a surrogate in Canada:
You must be a female of 21-49 years of age
Have delivered one or more child(ren) of your own
Have experienced healthy pregnancies and births
Lead a healthy lifestyle and be physically/mentally healthy in general
Surrogates in Canada are:
Reimbursed all of their expenses. (average $20,000-40,000)
Can apply for 15 weeks of maternity leave (if eligible)
Have independent legal representation and a legal contract
Will travel to the Intended Parents clinic - all costs covered
