What is a Medical Screening?

Medical screening ensures the surrogate is physically able to safely participate in the surrogacy process.
It typically includes:

  • Testing for sexually transmitted and other communicable diseases

  • Drug screening

  • Vaginal cultures

  • Bloodwork

  • Internal ultrasound

  • A physical exam conducted by the fertility specialist

If applicable, a surrogate’s partner may be required to complete blood tests as part of this process.

How long has Canadian Surrogacy Solutions Canada (CSSC) been in business?

CSSC was founded in June 2025 by Michelle Avery. In a remarkably short time, CSSC has grown to become one of Canada’s leading surrogacy agencies, earning a reputation as the ethical choice in the industry.
With exponential growth since its founding, CSSC now proudly supports clients coast to coast with a team of dedicated professionals working remotely across Canada.

How much does the initial consultation cost?

There is no charge for the initial consultation. We believe in providing accessible information and support at the beginning of your journey.
Fees only apply once you choose to move forward with the consulting services provided by JA Surrogacy Canada.

What is the role of the surrogacy agency?

At CSSC, we believe that sometimes it takes a village to create a child.
Our role as a surrogacy agency is to offer unwavering support, professional guidance, and compassionate care throughout your journey—whether you're an intended parent or a surrogate.

In a short time, we’ve earned the trust of families and surrogates across Canada and internationally, and have established strong connections with leaders in the surrogacy community both at home and abroad.

We are proud to support and guide every individual and family who entrusts their surrogacy journey to us. By staying true to ethical best practices, we continuously work to elevate the standards of care and advocacy within the surrogacy space in Canada.

Are surrogate mothers in your program screened?

Yes. All surrogate candidates in our program undergo a comprehensive screening process to ensure they are physically and emotionally prepared for the journey ahead.
Screening typically takes place at the fertility clinic selected by the intended parents (IPs). Some clinics may allow parts of the screening to be completed locally through the surrogate’s own healthcare provider.

If the surrogate has a partner, they may also be required to complete certain medical screenings—usually a simple blood test.

The screening process includes two primary components: medical and psychological evaluations.

What is a Psychological Screening?

This evaluation is performed by a psychologist or social worker with expertise in third-party reproduction. The purpose is to ensure that the surrogate:

  • Understands the emotional implications of surrogacy

  • Is mentally and emotionally prepared for the responsibilities involved

  • Is a suitable match for the unique demands of a gestational surrogacy journey

This screening includes a personality assessment, and the mental health professional will provide a written report and recommendation.
In most cases, this assessment can be done remotely (via phone or video call). The results are shared with the fertility clinic nurse, who then notifies us of the outcome.

What happens after a surrogate passes screening?

Once the surrogate successfully completes all screening steps, she will have a consultation with the fertility doctor (via phone, video call, or in person). During this meeting, the doctor will:

  • Explain the IVF process and what to expect

  • Discuss embryo transfer, medications, and emotional aspects

  • Answer any medical questions the surrogate may have

We always encourage surrogates to use this opportunity to raise any questions or concerns with the medical team, so they feel informed and empowered moving forward.
